Our chef's favorite plates: the Pico Chimichanga, Chiles Poblanos,
Cheese Crisp Special, Pollo Fundido, Chile Verde, Chile Colorado, and Ropa Vieja.

Our Favoritas del Chef menu features the plates our chef loves most: the Pico Chimichanga, Chiles Poblanos, Cheese Crisp Special, Pollo Fundido, Chile Verde, Chile Colorado, and Ropa Vieja. It's a great place to start if you're visiting Casa de Pico in La Mesa for the first time and want something truly homestyle.
Yes. The Pico Chimichanga is a large house-made flour tortilla filled with your choice of chicken or tender beef, plus Mexican rice and homemade beans, then deep-fried until golden. It's topped with homemade Salsa Roja, queso, and a dollop of sour cream, and served with Mexican rice and homemade beans.
At Casa de Pico, Chile Verde is tender seasoned pork in a mild chile verde sauce, served with rice and beans. Chile Colorado is tender cubed beef in our traditional red chile colorado sauce, with Mexican rice and refried beans. Handmade tortillas are available on request with either one.
Our Ropa Vieja is Sonora-style shredded beef sautéed with peppers, onions, and tomatoes, served with rice, refried beans, and homemade tortillas. For something cheesy, the Pollo Fundido is a crispy folded flour tortilla stuffed with seasoned shredded chicken, covered with queso sauce and melted cheese. Both are favorites at Casa de Pico in La Mesa.
